Holiday Season Plumbing Tips

Holiday Season Plumbing Tips

By now we’re well into the silly season and with Christmas just around the corner you’re likely to be having plenty of dinner parties and guests staying at your house. Believe it or not the period just after Christmas is an especially busy one for plumbers as a lot of problems that have been lying dormant rear their ugly head as your pipes and drains get an extra workout over the holiday season. Here are a few tips to avoid a plumbing emergency these holidays so you can spend more time enjoying the sun rather than sweating over a blocked drain.

  • Spending more time at the beach and the pool often leads to more showers during the warmer months, and that’s discounting the extra showers your distant relative has been taking whilst he stays on your couch. It’s best to leave 15 minutes between showers to let your pipes and water heater have a breather.
  • Make sure to avoid pouring all the heavy fats and oils from that roast turkey and gravy down the sink. Give your pots and pans a wipe with some paper towel before giving them a wash so that extra grease ends up in the bin not lining your pipes, and this also includes removing all food from plates before you put them in the dishwasher.
  • Whatever you do, don’t flush anything down the toilet that shouldn’t go there! I don’t know what it is but something about Christmas makes people forget even the simplest rules about what they can and cannot flush. Try to keep it to toilet paper only, as even “flushable” toilet wipes can clog your pipes and are best put in the bin.

But most importantly have a great Christmas break! We wish you a Merry Christmas from everyone here at the Priority Plus Plumbing family.
